Folk Science is the debut album by Irish producer Kevin Walsh. Recorded in various locations around Ireland, Folk Science was over two years in the making. It was mixed with long-time collaborator Danny Mcdonagh and mastered in Fluid Mastering Studio’s Shepards Bush, London (The Libertines, Thom Yorke, SBTRKT, Gary Numan, Lilly Allen and many more), it is an 8 track instrumental album that mixes electronic beats with melodic instrumentation and whose initial lighter, upbeat tone gives way to a more atmospheric, ambient sound for a finish.

Key to the overall sound of this album is the diverse group of musicians that Walsh collaborated with, from Richie McCormack (metal – ZhOra), Robbie Costelloe (blues and jazz – Leading Armies) Peter Mullins and Danny McDonagh (Indie – My Empire/Secret Police) Jonathan Castillo (classical) Moley O’ Suillebheain (classical and Irish traditional music). This eclectic mix of musicians lends a broad musical spectrum and pallet to the sound. Added to that Walsh’s precise and colourful production, influenced by his own broad tastes and influences (Four Tet, Jon Hopkins, The Shins, Sigur Ros, Milosh, Explosions In The Sky, The Postal Service), Folk Science, although unique in its own right, is a very accessible listen that has a little something for almost everyone.
